Birth and Postpartum Doula
Educational Consultant

I became a doula because I understand birth to be a sacred ceremonial moment and I
care about making a difference in women’s lives regarding their birth plan. I completed
my doula training with DONA International. I am Indigenous and Xicana, my Nations are
Wirrárika and Mexica. I was born and raised in Tulare, California and have been living on
the East Coast: New York, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and New Jersey since 2005. I am
the mother of my six-year-old son, Axayacatl Ilhuicamina, wife of RudyMexica, ceremonial
woman, sundancer, chanupa carrier, Capitana of Kalpulli Huehuetlahtolli, artisan, activist,
teacher, and scholar. I earned my B.A. in Ethnic Studies at the University of California at
Berkeley and M.A. in Childhood Education at New York University. In May 2011, I earned
my Ph.D. in Education from the joint Education Program at the University of Rhode Island
and Rhode Island College.
